History
The History major is a challenging and rewarding field of study. The program is defined by small classes where students actively interact with the instructors as well as each other and consists of courses which foster a spirit of critical learning and inquiry. In general, history majors are prepared to be strong, articulate writers and accomplished, versatile communicators.
The History major is one of the most popular degrees among the liberal arts. It prepares students for a variety of careers and professions. Because it prepares highly competent writers and communicators, history majors frequently find employment in the fields of communication, public relations as well as marketing and advertising. It also serves as an excellent preparation for students who are interested in politics and public policy. Many students use the history major as a springboard into the Master's Degree in Education, often as a preparation for a career in secondary education. Finally, the history major is ideally suited for students who are planning to go on to graduate school, especially if the desired career is in the social sciences and the liberal arts or leads to law school.
