The Concordia students tutor fourth graders, working on increasing their reading fluency and comprehension. Because we have their support, we were able to expand our tutoring to include math skills as well this year. The fourth graders are experiencing teacher and self-noticed improvements, and they are also benefiting by developing relationships with their tutors.”

Helping a student get to success is rewarding. One student I worked with did not believe he could do what the teacher asked, ‘I can't,’ he kept saying. I kept trying to find creative ways to encourage him. When I finally found a way to get him to believe, ‘I can,’ it was rewarding to see him so happy in his success.”
Jared Barton, CTC Tutor at Faubion School
My first day of tutoring I was the only tutor and one of the students had a seizure. Fortunately I had some background with seizures and was able to get her to safety. It furthered my belief of how important it is to know the background of the students we work with. We knew she had a seizure disorder, so we were prepared.”
Sandy White, CTC Tutor at Roosevelt Elementary School (Klamath Falls)
During my three years as a CTC corps member I volunteered at BPI, Irvington homework club, and the I Have a Dream project. These experiences opened my eyes to inequality in education. Being a CTC tutor inspired me to want to do more and really be an advocate for change. I was accepted to Teach for America and am about to embark on the biggest journey of my life, teaching in Washington, D.C. for two years. What better of a place to fight for equality in education than in our nation's capital?”
